MANILA, Philippines – Filipino MMA fighters Cary Bullos and Rocky Batolbatol hope to pull off separate upsets as they see action Friday in One FC: Battle of Lions at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Kallang, Singapore.
Bullos, who owns a 7-1 MMA record, will be taking on a rising MMA star Major Overall. On the other hand, it will be a battle of undefeated fighters as Batolbatol faces Australian champion Martin Nguyen.
Even with more wins under his belt, Bullos enters the bout against Major Overall as a heavy underdog. In Overall’s last bout, he knocked out highly rated contender Bruno Pucci. Overall also possesses a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is a multiple-time grappling champion, making him lethal both in the striking and grappling departments. He will also have the hometown advantage, having lived in Singapore for the past three years.
But Bullos is confident of pulling off the upset. Making his OneFC debut against Overall, the URCC Cebu champion is confident he will be able to hang with the best in the division.
Bullos began training in taekwondo when he was eight, beginning a two-decade love affair with martial arts. The chance to be featured in Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organization is a dream come true for the Cebuano and he seeks to become the next Filipino star to notch a win in ONE FC.
Meanwhile, the unbeaten Batolbatol is set to face Australia’s Martin Nguyen in a featherweight fight. Nguyen won a contract with One FC when he emerged as the champion of Australian promotion Brace.
Nguyen comes highly touted and Batolbatol will have his hands full against the 25-year old. Nguyen has finished his last two opponents via TKO, and with Batolbatol possessing professional boxing experience, this bout is poised to be a striking affair.
With ONE FC returning to Manila this December, both Batolbatol and Bullos have an opportunity to stake their claim for a spot on the card should they emerge victorious in Singapore.
