Naga Tigers sweep SL-Bicol regionals, earn PCCL berth

MANILA, Philippines - Naga College Foundation captured the Champions League (PCCL) South Luzon-Bicol regional championship recently at the J.C. Lobredo Coliseum in Naga City.

The NCF Tigers swept the round-robin series, beating University of Batangas, 69-54, in the preliminary round before repeating over the Brahams, 82-69, in the final to earn a seat to Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying games.

The Tigers were led by Ronn Romana with 25 points with able support from Leonel Barde, 14 points, and Fredson Hermonio, 19 points.

The tournament was hosted by Naga City Mayor John Bongiat.

The NCF Tigers take on NCR qualifier Diliman College in the first step-ladder knock-out games set tomorrow at FAITH Gym, Tanauan City, Batangas. The games will be covered live by ABS-CBN Sports and Action Channel from 2 to 6 p.m.

Other teams in the knock-out games are De la Salle University, Jose Rizal University, Centro Escolar University, University of Perpetual Help, St. Clare and the champion of North-Central Luzon.

The winner of the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifying games will complete the cast of the Elite Eight stage.

Already qualified are UAAP champion National University, NCAA titlist San Beda College, CESAFI winner Southwestern University, Far Eastern University, Arellano University, University of San Carlos and University of Visayas.

The Champions League (PCCL) National Collegiate Championship is sponsored by ABS-CBN, Phoenix Petroleum, Molten Balls, Fil-Oil Flying V Sports, Fog City Creamery and Foccacia. Tickets are available at SM Tickets online.
