MANILA, Philippines - Promising talents Kyla Soguilon and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh broke records in their respective events to lead the Most Outstanding Swimmer awardees in the 68th Philippine Swimming League Series dubbed Mayor Roderick Alcala Swimming Challenge held at the Ouan’s The Farm Resort in Lucena.
Soguilon submitted new records in the girls’ 9 years 100-meter individual medley (IM) in one minute, 21.83 seconds, besting the 1:26.50 old mark, and the 50m freestyle in 33.65 seconds, surpassing the 33.68 previous time. She also registered records in the 50m butterfly (36.57) and 50m backstroke (37.93).
Mojdeh, a veteran of international tournaments in South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, dominated the girls’ 7 years 100m IM (1:31.97) and 50m breaststroke (49.41) in record fashion.
“The event produced a record 96 most outstanding swimmers in the boys and girls divisions and it’s a nice feeling seeing smiles in these children as well as their coaches and parents,” said PSL president Susan Papa.
The MOS winners in the boys’ category were Rafael Lentejas III and Ythnmthw Orellana (6); Marc Bryan Dula, Joey del Rosario and Dwayniel Revelar (7); Ivan Ferrer, Julian Perez and Seraphim Tamani (8); John Danez, Yohan Cabana and Goran Manzo (9); Rio Malapitan, Geshan Toca, Emmanuel Hernandez and Julio Garcia (10); Jordan Lobos, Robert Pureza and Yoshimichi Maruo (11); Ian Trinidad, John Diaz, Mervier Mirandilla and Priam Jauod (12); Inaki Emil Lorbes, Alexis Manarin, Ethan Perez and Recs Agustin (13); Jeshrun Tena, Akira Maruo, Lancelot Abadia, and John Abadia (14); Bryan Camacho, Thomas Mueller and Rafter Alimagno (15); Angelo Lazo (16); and Alton De Luna, Aldrick Formaran and Henry Calma (17).
Topping the girls class were Aidepp De Luna and Princess Virrey (6); Grace Pangilinan, Fosmer Yambao and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (7); Danae Dessa, Jade Sarmiento and Enya Mercurio (8); Kyla Soguilon, Francesca Doctor, Emilya Torres and Alecsandra Rivera (9); Lourize Wangkay and Hannah Ataza (10); Christine De Luna, Marie Fabian, Genelly Orpiada and Bernice Magtibay (11); Grace Pangilinan, Shelimi Ruz and Juliane Gaerlan (12); Rein Labay, Bella Magtibay, Maria Del Moro and Reana Tongol (13); Thrixia Dimapilis and Joyceline Danez (14); Ameliza Ruz and Nheliza Bautista (15); and Almira Villapando, Jackelyn Calvadores and Arlyn Arcadio (17).
The Quezon Killerwhales bagged the overall title and took home the P5,000 cash prize while the Bluewaves Swim Team placed second for P3,000 and the Fleet Marines Swim Team wound up third for P2,000.
