Melly rules ‘Rexona Run to Your Beat’ half marathon

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Alex Melly won the premier 21K race of Sunday’s Rexona Run To Your Beat 2014, which saw an overflow crowd of over 12,400 running to the beats of musical performances  from the country’s top DJs and bands in three tunnels.

Melly finished ahead of Alphiz Kiptarus and Jackson Chirchir.  John Samoei, Richard Salano and David Kipsang were the top three runners in the 10K category, while Rafel Poliquit Jr, Christopher Ulboc Jr and Roldan Verano topped the 5K run.

Rexona Run To Your Beat 2014 challenged runners’ limits through music and also kept them fresh throughout the arc.

Mar Corazo, Rexona brand manager, said: “It was an amazing run, and I truly believe that music does push all of our runners to beat their personal bests.”

Collaborating with Universe and the top DJs in the Philippines, from the first gun start at 3 a.m. to the time the last runners hit the pavement, participants were entertained by visual and auditory experiences, and music zones that featured live DJ performances, lights, and three themed tunnels.

Deuce Manila kicked off all categories at the gun start. The 5K and 10K runners went through the Retro and Hip Hop tunnels with DJ Euric and Motherbasss accompanied by MC Pao, respectively.

The tunnels featured roller bladders, disco balls, street art and laser lights.

The  21K runners experienced all three  tunnels, which included the EDM tunnel with Martin Pulgar.

At the end of the race, all runners were treated to a party-ending DJ duel set by Ace Ramos and Mars Miranda, and a jumping performance by Sponge Cola.
