WTA turns cyber, gets real-time data, stats

Singapore – A new in-memory analytical platform has advanced the women’s tennis world by allowing coaches and players to access real-time match statistics and deliver an engaging experience for tennis enthusiasts.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals held in Singapore Sports Hub from Oct. 17-26, 2014 partnered with an enterprise application software company SAP High-Performance Analytical Appliance (SAP HANA) that provides coaches, players and fans access to historical data, match statistics and real-time analytics through mobile devices that allows them to prepare and strategize for the next match.

WTA is played by top 8 athletes and pairs in the world including number one player in singles Serena Williams and second-ranked Maria Sharapova.

SAP HANA is a system that combines database, data processing, and application platform capabilities in -memory providing insights for predictive text analytics, spatial processing and data virtualization.

Group vice-president of SAP Global Solutions Chris Burton said in Asia Pacific Media Summit held Thursday in Singapore that the software technology has changed the industry dynamics in sports from fan engagement, player performance to big data.

Burton stressed the importance of live content as one of the key trends in sports, big data which provides fans with the latest information statistics, live scores, and player information, and the social media engagement.

Chairman and CEO of WTA Stacey Allaster also said in a statement, “SAP has developed a great technology that allows our fans to do more, play more and see more.”
