11 coaches earn Paeng’s USBC Silver certification

MANILA, Philippines - United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Gold coach, instructor and international ambassador Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno had just concluded a Silver certification seminar for coaches from the Philippines and Bahrain at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl in Ermita, Manila.

A Filipino bowling legend who has amassed 126 career titles worldwide and the only four-time winner of the prestigious Bowling World Cup, Nepomuceno conducted his third coaching conference so far this year on Oct. 17-19.  Recently, Nepomuceno conducted a Bronze certification seminar in Colombia for 25 countries belonging to the Pan American Confederation (PABCON).

The newly certified Silver coaches are Mohamed Mustafa Janahi, Caloy de Leon, Josephine “Jojo” Canare, Rey “Toti” Daval-Santos, Selwyn “Sel” Cabaluna, Edmundo “Boy” Florencio, Jackson Co, Orlean Batistil, Edward Coo, Alexander Duque and Dr. Gonzalo Roman Jr.

“There was a great exchange of opinions and observations as most, if not all, of the coaches have been actively coaching for the past few years either in the national team, bowling academies, schools or giving private lessons,” said Nepomuceno, who also holds three Guinness World Records for his prowess.

“I feel gratified to know the participants were happy with how technical the Silver seminar is and how it will enhance their coaching and benefit their students,” Nepomuceno added.

The current group of Silver coaches either took the Bronze accreditation a few years ago and some even went through it last year with Nepomuceno.  “One year of active coaching is a pre-requisite after passing the Bronze certification,” Nepomuceno said.

“I found the seminar very informative, structured and straight to the point. It is quite different from previous coaching seminars I have attended,” said Bahrain’s Mohamed Mustafa Janahi.

The coaches Nepomuceno trains through the USBC program will develop bowlers in the region.  This is in line with USBC’s goal of securing a spot in the Olympics for bowling.
