CamSur sees fast Yellow Cab race

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Yellow Cab Challenge CamSur international triathlon expects a fast, spirited chase for top honors not only among the veteran campaigners but also from the first-timers when the event is held June 14 next year.

Camarines Sur Gov. Migz Villafuerte, whose province plays host to the latest addition to the Challenge Family Global Triathlon Series, bared this out during the exclusive formal launching of the event recently.

The course layout and the terrain in all three stages, as competitors in previous triathlons in CamSur have figured out, are conducive for speed.

There being no tide and current to contend with for the swim stage, racers could focus completely on propelling themselves forward as fast as their arms and legs could manage without worrying about veering off-course.

This involves a 1,500 meter loop at the CWC lake, a short sprint on a pathway to Lago Del Rey for a straight but longer out and back swim.

Transitioning to the bike stage, a quick exit out of CWC takes one to the Pan-Philippine Highway, a flat straightaway to Iriga City. On reaching Iriga City, riders go through a “Celebration Loop,” welcomed by loud cheers from a large crowd of spectators.

From there, with Mount Isarog serving as backdrop, riders head for the town of Ocampo. The ride back to CWC, especially for those at the front of the pack, would be an all-out mad dash for the Challenge Fast Time Bonus.

Meanwhile, others who graced the launch were David Roth of race organizer Leverage Sports Asia, Roy Quejada, chief operating officer of main race sponsor Yellow Cab Pizza, former Gov. Lray Villafuerte, pro triathlete and Challenge ambassador Michael Murphy, along with local officials of the province.
