Solaire backs Don Juan Derby

MANILA, Philippines - Solaire Resort and Casino, one of Manila’s top integrated resorts, just sponsored this year’s Don Juan Derby, a P1.5-million classic race for imported and local three-year-olds today at the Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas.

Solaire Resort and Casino is again joining forces with Klub Don Juan de Manila for the annual staging of the championship racefest

Solaire, which is scheduled to open the second phase of their integrated resort and casino this year, now bolsters additional hotel rooms, VIP Gaming areas, retail shops, restaurants and the much-anticipated Theather at Solaire on top of their already world-class facility.

“We are thrilled and thankful to have Solaire Resort and Casino back as our major sponsor of the 13th Don Juan Derby,” said KDJM president and former Rep. Jeci Bong Lapus together with event organizers former KDJM presidents Jun Almeda and Tonyboy Eleazar.

Barcelona, Marinz and Tap Dance from the stable of Mayor Sandy Javier are picked to lead the local breeds for the 2,000-meter derby which carries a guaranteed price of P900,000 for the winner, P305,000 for second, P163,000 for third, P60,000 for fourth and P12,000 each for the fifth-10th placers.

Challenging them at the featured event are imported runners Invicible Girl, Guel Mi, Husso Porte, Bently and Security Model.

Three other divisional championship races will also be staged on Don Juan Derby Day. These include the 2014 Golden Girls Stakes-Don Antonio O. Floirendo Memorial Race in honor of the late Don Antonio Floirendo Sr., chairman emeritus of KDJM and avid supporter of the derby races, 2014 Don Juan Juvenile Colts and 2014 Don Juan Juvenile Fillies, with P500,000 each in guaranteed prize money sponsored by Doña Nenita Floirendo, KDJM and the Philippine Racing Commission, respectively.

Official entries in the 2014 Golden Girls Stakes include Kornati Island, Starbelle, Excelsia, Passive, Sliotar, Silver Sword and Couple entries Divine and Strong Champion. Final starters in the 2014 Don Juan Juvenile Fillies include Epic, Tubbataha Reefs, Shouts for Joy, couple runners Clandestine and Azarenka, Cats Thunder while Rafa, Breaking Bad, Cat Express, Fear Nothing, All to Well, Pagsanhan Falls and Spicy Time complete the cast for the 2014 Don Juan Juvenile Colts.

Special trophy races with winners receiving motorcycles from Norkis will definitely spice up Don Juan Derby’s Saturday races that will kick off the weekend racefest.
