Huge field expected in Anvaya triathlon

MANILA, Philippines - Close to 300 participants are expected to beat the deadline for listup today for the seventh Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon set Oct. 18-19 at the scenic and challenging course of Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club (ACBNC) in Morong, Bataan.

Youth participants aged 12 years old-and below will dispute top honors in varied Super Tri Kids (STK) races that include a 25 meter swim, 200 meter run aquathlon (for participants aged eight years old and below), a 200 meter swim-2 km bike-1 km run triathlon (9-10) and a 300 m swim-4 km bike-2 km triathlon (11-12).

A race briefing for Sunday events will be held at 6 p.m. to be followed by the STK awarding ceremony and pasta dinner.

Age-group participants, meanwhile, slug it out for top honors in the debuting Standard Distance triathlon (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) as well as the Sprint (750m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run) and Mini-Sprint (500 m swim, 9 km bike–2.5 km run) races of the event sponsored by Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club, Globe, Standard Insurance and Gatorade. 

Action in the mini-sprint event (13-15) is also expected to be fierce with the entry of Joe Bernanard Sarmiento, Anton Vince Castillo, Tim Martin Sibayan, Mark Grist, Luigi Crisostomo, Anton Van Castillo, Una Janus Sibayan, Barryn Barrido and Anton Villaflor, all aspirants for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
