MANILA, Philippines - Dexter Daquigan snapped Daniel Castaneda’s three-race win run as he topped the fourth leg of the VW Kafer Cup at the Clark International Raceway in Clark, Pampanga recently.
Daquigan, of Delta Star Transformer-VW Santa Monica, swept both the pre-final and final races to emerge the Class A champion, upending Castaneda with Raffy Locson placing third.
Daquigan’s team mechanics Jon Porto and Jun Ruiz did a good job in adjusting the set-up of his 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle 1303 that suited Daquigan’s driving style and racing experience. Backed by Hispeed Piston, Maliwan Thai Kitchen, Daquigan Sports Factory, Homies Trading, Auto intensity, HGD Line Hardware, Wipeout Autocraft, 8A Performance and Flashbacks Autohaus, Daquigan topped the time trials in 2:27.127 – a full second faster than Castaneda’s.
Castaneda actually grabbed the front seat at the start of the pre-final race but made a costly lapse approaching the big loop, which Daquigan took advantage of to seize control.
The two disputed the lead before Daquigan hit a fast laptime of 2:27.860 in the second lap to pull ahead. He later wrested the lead and held on to it in the third lap on his way to victory (3.194 seconds) in the five-lap race.
