Champs League under way in Dumaguete

MANILA, Philippines - The Visayas regional games of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) gets under way today with another banner field seeing action at the Macias gym in Dumaguete City, according to executive director Jose Lipa Jr.

The Visayas islands regional games, set until tomorrow, features teams from Dumaguete (Asian College Lightnings), Ormoc (Western Leyte College Mustangs), Bohol (Phil Maritime Institute Navigators), Bacolod (University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams), and Iloilo (John B. Lacson Foundation Dolphins).

Four regional titles are at stake namely, North-Central Luzon, South Luzon-Bicol, Visayas Islands and Mindanao. The winners of Luzon regions will advance to the Luzon-Metro Manila Qualifying games while t he Visayas and Mindanao champions will compete in the Visayas-Mindanao Qualifier.

The champions of the Qualifying games will earn seats in the Elite Eight phase of the competitions.

The Mindanao regional games will be held in Cagayan de Oro City on Oct. 7-8. The field includes champion teams from Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, General Santos City, Zamboanga and Northern Mindanao.

The South Luzon-Bicol regional games will be held at J.C.Lobredo Coliseum, Naga City on Nov. 3-4 featuring champion squads from Sorsogon, Quezon province, Naga, Tabaco, Batangas, Cavite and Laguna while the North-Central Luzon regional games will be played Nov. 3-5 at Lyceum North Western University Gym, Dagupan City.

Vying in the North-Central Luzon tilt are collegiate champions of Vigan, Baguio-Benguet, Pangasinan, La Union, Pampanga and Zambales.
