INCHEON, South Korea — South Korea is aiming to reach its first Asian Games men's football final since winning the 1986 title when it takes on Thailand on Tuesday, while 2006 finalist Iraq faces North Korea in the other semifinal.
South Korea won bronze at the 2010 Asian Games and is favored for gold following the elimination of defending champion Japan.
Thailand has never won a medal in the Asian Games football tournament and North Korea's best result in recent years was silver in 1990. The final is to be played Thursday.
In other sports, Taiwan's Lu Yen-hsun, a 2010 Wimbledon quarterfinalist, takes on Yoshihito Nishioka in the men's tennis final, and top-seeded Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand plays China's Wang Qiang for the women's gold.
Four gold medals will also be awarded in taekwondo and wrestling events. China is expected to continue its diving domination in finals of the women's 10-meter platform and men's 3-meter springboard synchronized events.
The program in track and field includes finals in the women's pole vault, men's discus, long jump and 110-meter hurdles.
The track events at Incheon have been dominated by African-born athletes representing Arab states.
