MANILA, Philippines - Twice postponed because of bad weather, the 27th edition of the Triple V-Media invitational golf classic finally gets going tomorrow at Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club.
The dual meet between Media and the Kamayan Golf Club for the Tito Eduque Cup will resume after it was cancelled last year and postponed twice this year, all because of bad weather and calamities. Tee off is 6:30 a.m.
Last year’s tournament was cancelled and funds for the tournament were donated to victims of calamities. Originally scheduled on Aug. 26, birthday of the late chairman of the Triple V Group of restaurants, Tito Eduque, it was twice rained out this year. No weather disturbance is forecast for Monday.
Kamayan golfers, who will be seeking to retain the Eduque Cup, have dominated the series since it started in 1987. Media, however, has managed to score a few wins, the last one in 2011 when it beat Kamayan by a whopping 42 strokes.
The annual dual meet is traditionally part of the anniversary celebration of the Triple V group, which includes Kamayan, Saisaki, Dad’s, Triple V Express and its latest brand, Sambo Kojin. It also serves to celebrate the birthday of Eduque, who died in 2001. He would have been 87 this year.
