MANILA, Philippines - The young guns of Olivarez College wore down Philippine Nautical Technical College, 100-43, on Thursday in the 13th Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) men’s basketball tournament at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Paranaque.
The Sea Lions’ running game allowed them to start and finish strong as they firmed up their hold on the lead with their seventh triumph in eight games.
“We had good running game from the start,” said Sea Lions coaching staff member Mark Paul Dolon on behalf of coach Michael Saguiguit.
They moved two games ahead of Rizal Technological University, which picked up its fifth triumph in eight games at the expense of Philippine School of Business Administration, 91-82.
PSBA (4-4) had earlier won over Manuel L. Quezon University, 84-66, last Tuesday.
Rookie Francis Young showed the way for the Sea Lions with 20 points while another newbie in Pruvil Bermudez hit 12, and Jet Lasco provided 11.
Bermudez joined hands with Saguiguit and Lordy Geronimo for 13 points in the first period.
Their efforts allowed the Sea Lions to quickly move away, 20-11.
Quiro led RTU with 30 points while Cyrus Tabi and Kerr Bangeles banged in 10 points apiece.
Action resumes on Tuesday at the RTU gym.
