MANILA, Philippines - The first Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National Juniors badminton tournament braces for the final regional tournament on Oct. 3-5 with a big field expected to see action in General Santos City.
More than 800 participants took part in the Luzon (Manila) and Visayas (Cebu) legs of the junior tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association and held to discover fresh talents who could be trained and developed to become members of the national pool.
Winners in various divisions will advance to the national finals of the event, backed by Sun Cellular, Smart Communications, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) Sports Foundation, and PBA Smash Pilipinas and Babolat, set in Manila.
Events on tap are the boys’ and girls’ singles for U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 along with the boys’ and girls’ doubles and mixed doubles for U-15, U-17 and U-19 sections.
The series of tournaments is part of the Philippine National Ranking System, according to Sun Celluar president Orlando Vea.
