Domingo, Ang take pole positions in Asian Karting
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines takes a headstart with Bobby Domingo of Formula-E Racing and Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement claiming the pole position in today’s pre-finals of the 2014 Petron Asian Karting Open Championships at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.
Domingo, who posted the fastest laptime of 43.422 seconds, topped the consolidated qualifying heats results to capture the pole position in the premier Formula 125 Open Seniors class of this event sanctioned and approved by the world governing Commission Internationale de Karting- Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA) and Automobile Association Philippines.
Macau ace Joao de Jesus Afonso of CKS Racing Team is second on the grid with Kart Plaza Motorsports Racing Team’s Vrei-AR Suba at No. 3. Singaporean Hong Yang of Kart Master Drakar Racing Team and Michael Jordan of Formula-E Racing are at fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ang, son of San Miguel Corp. top honcho, will lead the cast in the Formula 125 Open Juniors after posting the fastest laptime of 43.735 with Seaoil-DC karter Gabriel Tayao Cabrera at second (44.164) and Macau’s Leong Hon Chio of Solar RacingTeam at third.
Eduardo Coseteng Jr. of Eagle Cement also takes the top spot in the Asian Mini-ROK class against defending champion Flynn Jackes.
Hong Kong’s Yu Chuen Yiu Royce and Yuen Moon of WM Racing Team follow at third and fourth with Macau kickoff leg champion Bianca Bustamante of Formula-E Racing at fifth.
Results of the pre-finals will determine the grid positions for the afternoon’s final race.
