San Beda, LSGH extend NCAA swimming reign

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – San Beda extended its dynastic reign in the men's and women's division to another year even as La Salle-Greenhills continued its dominance of the junior section at the conclusion of the 90th NCAA swimming competition at the Rizal Memorial Pool over the weekend.

The Sea Lions were a cut above the rest by amassing 1350.5 points, way above the second-placed College of St. Benilde's 684.5 while the Sea Lionesses were as merciless in the distaff side by finishing with 1161 points, miles ahead of St. Benilde's 816.5.

The Greenies, in contrast, needed a final day gold medal deluge to overtake the Sea Cubs for the juniors title with 1038.5 as against the latter's 887.

Wilfred Sunglao, Jr., Christian Dimaculangan and Andre Lorenzo Manzo spearheaded the charge for San Beda as they won golds as well broke five, four and three records, respectively.

Frances may Cabrera, for her part, led the Sea Lionesses by accounting for four record-breakers.

Rafael Sta. Maria emerged the star of the high school competition as he shattered six league marks while La Salle-Greenhills Mark Joseph Romiquit had four to carry their school on their shoulders.

It was San Beda's 13th straight men's title and 17th overall while its women's squad took home its fourth crown in row.

La Salle-Greenhills, for its part, reigned supreme for the 11th consecutive season and 17th overall.
