Sun-Ming junior netfest Visayas leg up

MANILA, Philippines - The first Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National Juniors badminton tournament will host the Visayas leg on Aug. 29-31 with a huge field expected at the Raquet Zone Badminton Center, Montebello Villa Hotel Compound, Apas, Cebu City.

More than 350 participants from Cebu, Iloilo, Bohol, Leyte and Samar, among other places in the Visayas region are tipped to see action in the annual tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association.

The Mindanao leg will be held Oct. 3-5 in General Santos after the Luzon and Visayas leg as part of the three qualifying legs. The champions of the three elims will represent their respective regions in the national finals to be held in Manila.  

Events on tap are the boys and girls’ singles for U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 while the boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles will be U-15, U-17 and U-19.

The tournament is supported by Sun Cellular, Smart Communications, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) Sports Foundation, and the PBA Smash Pilipinas and Babolat. 

The competition is part of the Philippine National Ranking System.

The tournament is open to all badminton junior teams, training camps and all other junior players in the country. Juniors can choose which qualifying region to join – whether based on residency or location of school.
