MANILA, Philippines - Iloilo Province, representing Asia-Pacific, capped its campaign with an 11-2 rout of Canada in the classification round of the Junior League Softball World Series Saturday at Everest Park in Kirkland, Washington.
Team Iloilo scored seven runs in the fifth inning, mostly error-aided, to take the game beyond the reach of Hampton LL from Victoria, British Columbia in a consolation match at Field B.
It was sweet revenge for the Ilonggas, who lost to the Canadians, 3-4, in the pool play. Iloilo failed to advance to the KO stage while Canada reached as far as the quarterfinals, where it lost to eventual champion East, 1-11.
East representative West Point LL from Pennsylvania topped the tourney after beating Latin America, 6-2, in the finals.
Morgan Ryan blasted a home run over the left field fence to give East a 4-2 cushion in the bottom second. She also delivered on the other end, striking out five batters to help the Pennsylvania softbelles secure the victory and raise the crown.
From a two-run lead, Iloilo raced to a 10-1 spread in the fifth as it gained from
Dezza Barredo’s RBI single and successive errors by Canada to pull away.
Royeve Palma struck out six and gave up one earned run on eight hits over six innings to take the victory.
