Kevin Alas on joining PBA Draft: I just want to pursue my dream
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine national men’s basketball team cadet pool member Kevin Alas has confirmed his participation in the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft on Aug.13, making up his mind at the last minute.
In a text message Wednesday, the former Letran standout informed Philstar.com of his decision to throw his hat into this year’s draft, with the deadline for applications set at 5 p.m. the same day.
“Magpapasa na (application) in a while,” Alas texted.
Alas thus joins fellow Gilas cadet pool members Ronald Pascual and Matt Ganuelas in the draft, which is perceived to be the deepest in years.
The NLEX star stressed that now is the time to go for his dream to play in the country’s premier professional league, even as he had previously contemplated staying with the Gilas pool for another year.
Alas even tweeted a photo of his application form for the draft.

Asked which team he prefers to suit up for, Alas said it hardly matters as his priority is just to make it to the PBA.
“First, gusto ko na i-pursue yung dream ko then ko naman whichever team. Kasi pangarap ko is makapasok ng PBA. Masayang masaya na ako nun,” said the versatile guard, whose father Louie Alas is an assistant coach for Alaska.
Regardless of which team picks him, Alas is certain of one thing: that he will suit up for Gilas Pilipinas anytime.
“Siyempre bro. Wala nang isip isip pa. Pangarap ko yan (playing for Gilas),” he ended.
