MANILA, Philippines - A strong, seven-member CATS Motors contingent bannered by Division I winner Dennis Gonzales is heading to Brisbane, Australia to compete with seven other nations in the MercedesTrophy Asian Final.
Gonzales shot his way into the team with a superb showing in last May’s national final, which earned him a slot in the world-renowned MercedesTrophy, which is celebrating its silver anniversary.
Division II and III champions Arch. Wilbert Tan and Dr. Alfredo Abarintos and runners-up Marvin Caparros, Manuel Sy, Edwin Costes plus lady champion Leah Espino form the squad headed by CATS Motors president Felix Ang.
With their passion for winning, each player is capable of replicating what fellow Mercedes-Benz owner Lee Latayan did two years ago when he emerged the top Filipino performer in the Asian Final.
Latayan highlighted the sensational year when he teamed up with Sri Lanka’s Tyrone Weerackody and Malaysians Ee Siew Pek-schroeder and Lim Lean Kuan for the World Final overall trophy.
Aside from golf, the delegates, who will fly via Philippine Airlines with country team captain Emy Arcilla, will undergo the Mercedes-Benz Active Safety Driving Experience by German and Australian instructors.
Makati Shangri-La, PLDT Alpha, Shell V-Power Nitro, QBE Seaboard, IZOD TW Steel and PAL sponsored the MercedesTrophy Philippines with Canon, Asia Brewery, Security Bank, Johnnie Walker and Business Mirror.
