Zaragosa banners Lyceum bid in ICTSI interschool tilt

MANILA, Philippines - National champion and veteran internationalist Rupert Zaragosa suits up for Lyceum as the Intramuros-based school try to break the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry in college play in the 2014 ICTSI-JGFP Interschool golf championships firing off today at the hazard-laden South Links Golf Club course in Las Pinas.

Zaragosa, the most dominant local amateur player last year, further bolsters a revamped Lyceum roster that now includes seasoned juniors Jelbert Gamolo, Luigi Guerrero and Jansen Morilla.

It will be those in the developmental tournament conducted by The Junior Golfers League from grades 1 to 12 who will first see action after the opening ceremonies today before the entries in Girls 1, 2 and 3 show their wares tomorrow at South Links.

About 500 junior golfers from all over the country are set to be involved in the series organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines with the major support of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and also sponsored by Martin Lorenzo, the Philippine Golf Foundation, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf.

The college players have something to work on as the Interschool series to be held in nine golf courses over the next four months will serve as the qualifying for the PGF National Collegiate Championship, a new collaboration between the PGF and JGFP designed to boost college golf in the country – slated later this year.
