Anton rips old mark; son shines anew

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Castrol-Yokohama champion driver Carlos Anton ruled the Mark Young-Works Bell GTR with a new record of two minutes, 00.871 seconds at the Clark International Speedway last July 5, breaking the old mark of 2:3.227  he set in April.

The event was being held in honor of the founder of Circuit Showdown Enzo Pastor who was gunned down last June by still unidentified assailants.

“It is great to do this at such a meaningful event for Enzo and his family.  I thought the last time we set the record it would be hard to go any faster so now going 3 seconds faster is really something.  We hit 280kph down the main straight and the A005 ADVAN Slicks kept the car stable all throughout the lap,” Anton said.

Anton’s nine-year-old-son Inigo also shared the day’s honors with his father when he snatched third place in the highly contested bracket E during the time trial event.  Inigo Anton clocked an impressive 2:33.441 on board the JSD-Special Stage prepared Honda SIR, beating over 15 others.

Inigo scored his third podium finish in as many races, making him this year’s promising sensational rookie after he improved his time by over six seconds from the last time he ran the CIS in April.

Carlos Anton, the defending Philippine touring car champion, also holds the lap record in Batangas Racing Circuit (long, short, and inside track configurations).

He sets his sights on the Phil-GT/PTCC crown  with support from Yokohama, Castrol, Works Bell brakes Japan, Cars Unlimited, EthanWorxs, View Park Hotel, Buddyclub, Autoshack, JSD Autosport and Special Stage.
