Roxas, Viñias top Quantum street caging
MANILA, Philippines - Raylord Roxas regained the men’s crown while Maria Magnolia Viñias took the women’s plum as the SM Clark elims topnotchers dominated the Quantum Street basketball tournament grand finals at SM Manila recently.
Roxas, 17, bested the top bets from 11 tryout centers nationwide with a near-flawless stint in the grand finals, nailing his second Quantum crown after topping the 2012 edition of the event organized by Quantum Amusement Corp. where he clinched a berth in the China Cup.
“I wasn’t expecting to win again but I’m really happy I did,” said Roxas, who squeezed out times to practice on weekends to hone up his skills in the Street Basketball arcade game. He beat Christian Asensio, who topped the SM Calamba elims, by 20 points in the finals.
The 13-year-old Viñias, meanwhile, surprised 2010 winner Elizabeth Lintingco and Bacolod top scorer Eldine Koch to capture the women’s crown.
The event drew hundreds of players when it kicked off its provincial tryouts last May at Quantum branches at SM malls in Baguio, Bacolod, Cebu and Gen. Santos City with the NCR elims held at various SM malls.
Roxas and Viñias received cash prizes, trophies and gift certificates from Quantum Amusement and chief backer Rebisco Fudgee Bar.
