The Philippine Star

DASMARIÑAS, Cavite, Philippines - – Far Eastern University standouts Bernadette Pons and Charm Simborio came up with an impressive frontline game at the start of the third leg of the 2014 Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball tournament

They breezed past their foes in posting three straight wins in their opening matches at the sand courts of the De La Salle-Health Sciences Institute in Dasmarinas, Cavite on Friday.

Pons and Simborio first got past San Beda-1’s Debbie Dultra and Carmina Rebolledo, 21-19, before putting away Emilio Aguinaldo College-1’s Charmille Belleza and Clara Camille Lozada.

Then, they asserted themselves with a 21-6 swamping of Letran-1’s Jan Carreon and Kathleen Barrinuevo in this beach volleyball extravaganza now on its 12th year and backed by Petron, Mikasa and DLSHSI.

“Sa service at receives kami dumiskarte,” said Simborio, a marketing management sophomore on her first sortie in the sport.

They moved ahead unbeaten in Group A, with Philippine Christian University standouts Alyanna Marie Gorospe and Alicia Adolfo expected to challenge them for a semifinals seat.
