Portugal leads ace drivers in touring car

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty of the country’s leading drivers gear up for another fierce battle as they clash in the second leg of the Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Batangas this weekend.

Taysan Batangas Mayor Dondon Portugal tries to firm up his hold of the solo lead as he goes for another sweep of the GT 300 crowns in both the Sprint and the GT Main races.

But celebrity racer Jomari Yllana is raring to bounce back along with Paolo Mantolino, who checked in second overall behind Portugal in the GT Main Race of the event serving as part of the BRC Motorsports Championship season presented by Petronas and sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).

Mantolino also holds the lead in the GT200 division against three former champions – defending PTCC titlist Carlos Anton, 2010 PTCC holder Joey Pery and former GT champion William Tan.

Focus will also be on the nine-man GT150 class where Joel Portugal slugs it out with Ed Anguluan, Raymond Ronquillo, Dindo de Jesus, Ronald Ancheta, Antonio Rock Moncupa, Walter Zamora, Bong Perez and Richmond dela Rosa.

Edwin Rodriguez also guns for his second win in the GT 100 division against Arvin Drueco even as action is expected to heat up in the PhilMiniracers Championship Series, the VW KaFER Cup, the Winds Formula Philippines and the Sparco Bracket Circuit Racing.
