MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Blu Girls failed to match the firepower of Chinese Taipei and yielded a 1-16 setback in a one-sided match that was over in four innings in the World Cup of Softball IX at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, California yesterday.
The Blu Girls actually got on the board first, via a run by Lorna Adorable off an illegal pitch, but that was the best they could offer against their Asian rivals.
The Taiwanese bombarded the Filipinas with 13 runs in the bottom second, with Hui Wen Huang slamming a solo home run and Hsueh Mei Lu blasting a two-run round-tripper, to rip the game apart.
The Filipinas never recovered from that and fell to their fifth straight loss for 1-5 overall after the elims, good for a share of sixth with Venezuela. Phl and Venezuela will face off to dispute No. 6 in the seven-nation meet.
Chinese-Taipei improved to 2-2.
The Taiwanese had a field day against Phl’s Veronica Belleza, Annalie Benjamen, Rizza Bernardino and Francesca Foti, peppering the Blu Girls staff with 19 hits in the abbreviated match..
In contrast, the Filipinas managed only three hits against hurlers Su Hua Lin, An Ju Chiu, Hui Lin Chung, and Jo Han Shih.
