TV5 scores big in PBA Finals

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Game 5 of the PLDT Home Telpad PBA Governors’ Cup Finals between San Mig Coffee and Rain or Shine last Wednesday garnered high viewership ratings and placed it at the Top 5 of the most watched primetime program, based on overnight data from Nielsen Media Research.

The Mixers edged the Elasto Painters, 92-89, to become the fifth team to score a grand slam.

The game averaged almost four million viewers or 9.5 percent AMR and 34.0 percent audience share in the National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM) from 8-11:30 p.m., equaling the high ratings reached during the Philippine Cup Finals last February.

At its peak, the game was watched by 5.7 million viewers or 13.3 percent AMR and 56.8 percent audience share. The game’s viewership ratings managed to overtake shows on the other networks, such as ABS-CBN’s Ikaw Lamang and Pure Love as well as GMA-7’s My Destiny and Ang Dalawang Mrs Real.

“What a perfect end to a record-breaking PBA coverage this season on TV5. It was a tightly fought series between these two great teams with two of the best basketball coaches in the country. History was also made with the grand slam feat of the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers. It just goes to show how much Filipinos love the PBA,” said Chot Reyes, Head of Sports5.

Gate attendance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for Game 5 reached a season-high of 23,234 fans.

The 39th Season of the PBA was presented by Sports5, the sports production arm of TV5. Sports5 will also cover  live  Gilas Pilipinas games in the  FIBA World Cup which starts Aug. 30.
