Mixers march to rare PBA grand slam

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee survived a tough challenge from Rain or Shine, escaping with a 92-89 victory to register a historic Grand Slam in bagging the PBA Governors Cup at a jampacked Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.

The Elasto Painters had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Arizona Reid missed a potential tying triple as time expired, enabling the Mixers to run away with the win.

The victory is another milestone for coach Tim Cone, who once again made history in becoming the first coach to win two grand slams in different teams.

Cone achieved the feat in 1996 with Alaska.
