MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Sr., Floyd Jr.’s equally brash father, thinks a fight between his son and Manny Pacquiao is not out of the question.
Despite the younger Mayweather already announcing he is taking a rematch with Marcos Maidana, his father believes a showdown with Pacquiao is still possible.

In fact, Floyd Sr. noted that the fight the world wants to see could happen sooner than most fans expect.
“Well I’m gonna tell you this right here, it could be closer than you think,” he told host Jenna J of On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
While several attempts to get Floyd Jr. and Pacquiao in the same ring have failed, talks about pitting two of boxing’s biggest stars against each other still persist. The showdown has the potential to be the richest bout ever, and will ultimately settle the debate on who is the best fighter of this era.
There’s no doubt in Floyd Sr.’s mind that it is his son.
“I think for me, little Floyd would box his (Pacquiao’s) a** out. I’m just being honest,” he stressed.
For now, Mayweather and Pacquiao have respective businesses to take care of, with the former reportedly heading to a rematch with Maidana on Sept. 13 and the latter returning in November for another assignment in Macau.
Instead of Mayweather, Pacquiao could end up facing Juan Manuel Marquez, Chris Algieri, Luis Abregu, Amir Khan or Danny Garcia. It could well be against Algieri after a report came out claiming the American has already received an offer to fight the Filipino icon.

Floyd Sr., for his part, says he has gotten enough of Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach’s claim that the fighting congressman will beat Mayweather if they ever fight.
“It can take place but sometimes it’s good. I would say sometimes we’re gonna fight him because that Freddie Roach, one thing about him, he’s talking too much s***,” he said.
“I’m not gonna tell my son not to fight him (Pacquiao) because my son fought everybody. Freddie Roach is just sitting right there waiting on a big bank, I know that!” Floyd Sr. ended.
