Smart National Open Badminton tiff unfurls July 14

MANILA, Philippines – The country’s best players across all ages will clash in the Smart National Open Badminton Tournament from July 14-18 at the Powersmash Badminton Center in Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.

The tournament, backed chiefly by Smart Communications chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, is expected to draw more than 500 players nationwide, including members of the Philippine national team.

National players Antonino Toby Gadi, Peter Gabriel Magnaye, Joper Escueta, Paul Vivas, Gelita Castilo, Jayson Oba-ob, Ronel Estanislao and Michael Cudiamat, among others, are expected to compete in the five-day tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association (PBA).

The competition is part of the Philippine National Ranking System (PNRS).

PBA President Jejomar Binay, also the country’s Vice President, PBA Secretary-General Congressman Albee Benitez and Pangilinan are expected to grace the opening ceremony.

Among the categories are men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events. Cash prizes, trophies and medals await the winners.

All badminton teams, training camps and all other badminton aficionados in the country are invited to join the prestigious competition, which is supported by the MVP Sports Foundation, PBA, Smart Live More, Sun Cellular, Smash Philippines and Babolat.
