Chicano faces tough rivals in Tri United 2

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion John Chicano will have to deal with challenge of the surging Nikko Huelgas and other tough triathletes in the Tri United 2 triathlon of Unilab Active Heart (ULAH) on  July 6 at Playa, Laiya, San Juan, Batangas.

In the long distance (2K swim-60K bike –15K run) Elite Male category, Huelgas, Benjamin Rana, Michael Murphy and August Benedicto are expected to seriously challenge Chicano who is the heavy favorite for the title.

Chicano outlasted Huelgas in Tri United 1 in Subic Bay Freeport . Subsequently Huelgas regained his winning form in other events since then. At stake for the champion in the Bike King-organized event is the cash prize of P10,000 while the second and third placers receive P6,000 and P4,000, respectively.

On the distaff side bronze medalist Anna Stroh will face off with 2013 Tri United 3 champion Ani de Leon-Brown for the title and P10,000 prize.

On the sprint distance (750m swim –20K bike–5K run) teens races, Youth Olympic Games triathlon qualifier Vicky Deldio will be challenged by Madeleine Argosino, Magali Echauz and Gloryen Limbo for the girls’ title.

Meanwhile Philippine team boys Justin Chiongbian, Julius Constantino, Louie Lalanto and Edward Macalalad will test their skills against John Argosino, Tyrhone Calibuso and Alonzo Magadia.

The team competition has attracted several clubs, including ULAH, Fitness First, Greenhills Tri Team, Trimac, PLDT Bike King, Sante Barley, Polo Tri, Sabak Tri Team, Yellow Cab Tri Clark, Herbalife, Xycos, Century Tri Hard, Maxxis Sante Barley and Team Norman.

The event is supported by ULAH, Playa Laiya, Aboitiz, LANDCO, AboitizPower, OtterBox, Enervon Activ, Active Health Sports Gel, Enervon HP, Orbea, Shimano, Crystal Clear, Maxxis, Pocari Sweat, Timex, Saucony, Women’s Health, Men’s Health and The Philippine STAR, 2014 Tri United 1

All Top 3 male-female category and team winners will receive medals and giftpacks. The awarding ceremony will commence at 11:30 a.m. at Playa Laiya.

The day before the race,  an expo will be held at Playa Laiya showcasing products and wares of ULAH, Shimano, Maxxis, Saucony and Otterbox.
