Mayweather says Maidana rematch is on
MANILA, Philippines – Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. will take on Marcos Maidana in a rematch this September, a follow-up to their thrilling first meeting last May.
ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael reported the development, saying Mayweather himself confirmed the news.
“Sept. 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana-Floyd Mayweather, part II. And then in May, I'm fighting in May and I'll have a big surprise for y'all,” the undefeated boxer said in the report.
However, Maidana’s manager Sebastian Contursi said nothing is final yet as negotiations are still ongoing.
"Still in the talks. Nothing confirmed on our side. Hopefully, we'll have a decision made in the next 4-5 days," Contursi explained in the same report.
Maidana, for his part, echoed his manager’s statement, praising Mayweather on Twitter for consenting to the rematch.
REMATCH in the talks. Respect for @FloydMayweather man of his word, yet only fist talk in the ring. #LATINPOWER

Mayweather outpointed a game Maidana last May 3, winning a majority decision in a competitive fight that saw the Argentine throwing everything but the kitchen sink at his American foe.
The fight was for the WBC and WBA welterweight championships.
