Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos Nat’l Junior badminton slated
MANILA, Philippines - The first Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National Juniors Badminton Tournament Luzon leg will be held July 5-6 and 12-13 at the Powersmash Badminton Center in Makati.
The tournament, a brainchild of Sun Cellular, through its president Orlando Vea, aims to discover fresh talents all over the country.
The Sun Cellular tournament will have qualifying legs in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The Visayas leg in Cebu City will be held Aug. 29-31 and the Mindanao leg Sept. 5-7 in General Santos.
The categories are boys and girls singles for U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19, boys and girls doubles and mixed doubles for U-15, U-17 and U-19.
The champions of the three qualifying regional legs will compete in the national finals in Manila on Nov. 29-30.
The tournament is supported by Sun Cellular, SMART Communications, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) Sports Foundation, Philippine Badminton Association Smash Pilipinas and Babolat.
National junior players Alexis Geverjuan, Alvin Morada, Christian Morada, Paul Gerald Gonzales, Jessie Francisco, Airah Mae Nicole Albo, Alyssa Geverjuan, Thea Marie Pomar and Alyssa Ysabel Leonardo are also expected to compete.
The competition is sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) and is part of the Philippine National Ranking System.
