Tan makes waves in ROK Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - BRE-Motul Karter Paul Laurence Tan is fast proving himself as the biggest prized discovery this season following his amazing feat as overall winner of the SQ 125 Sprint 4T only on his third competitive race recently in the third leg of the 2014 Petron ROK Cup Karting Super at the Boomland Kart Track.

Tan claimed his third Novice crown, eclipsing the Expert and Veteran karters in the combined grid including more-experienced campaigners Jerry Choi and Guiseppe Andrighetto with the support of PTT Oil Philippines, Motul, Blanco Race Engineering, True Blends, Top Gear, Point Zero Project, Media Magic and Route66 4x4 shop .

He completed the 16-lap race in eight minutes, 19.139 seconds, 13.463 seconds over runner-up Jerry Choi.  Moreover, he clocked the fastest time of 31.198 seconds in the time trials and swept the qualifying heat, the pre-final and the final race in an awesome mastery of the Boomland Kart Track, a fast, tricky and highly technical course.

His discipline, dedication and hardwork aside from his rigid training under the tutelage of seasoned karting and car racing veteran, Columbian expat Francisco “Pacho” Blanco of BRE, paid its rewards along with the skillful work of tuner Paulo Ferrer and Ramel Ret Esparagoza.

The initial success further inspired him to improve his craft and pursue his goal not just to become a future karting champ but also achieve an important milestone in Philippine Motorsports history.

“Kart training 4x a week and a mix of other sports, namely swimming, biking and running prepared me for the race,” said Tan.
