Tagaytay dominates WGAP leg at Midlands
MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands, held to just a third place finish after two legs, struck back at home, winning two divisions while finishing third in the other to get back into the thick of things after three legs of the 2014 WGAP Circuit at Tagaytay Midlands recently.
The reigning three-time overall champions posted a pair of runaway wins in Classes B and C but fell short in Class A where they settled for third with a 146 behind winner Alabang, which assembled a 151 and edged Forest Hills (149) by two in the two-day tournament presented by Champion Infinity.
Lilibeth de Villa came away with 40 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system while Maripaz Domingo, Connie Mamaril and Bernadette Wong added 39, 38 and 37 markers respectively, as the Highlanders shot a 154 to beat Forest Hills by 10 for the Class B diadem in the event organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phl (WGAP).
Hyun Jung Park fired 39 points to cop the individual title and lead Forest Hills’ 144 output that also included a 37 from Sohan Uym, a 35 from So Young Lee and a 33 from Hey Rung Kim while Sta. Elena, led by Marit Yuchengco’s 38 markers, finished third at 133, nipping Alabang in the countback.
Orchard placed fifth at 131 followed by Villamor (130), Canlubang (121), Riviera (92).
Mabek Kawsek fired 41 points while Deena Mendiola, Veronica Wuson and Aloma Lopez produced 40, 39 and 37 markers, respectively, as Tagaytay romped off with the Class C crown with a 157, 11 points ahead of Forest Hills, which got 41 and 39 points from Evelyn Alcantara and Lilian Lu, respectively.
Aguinaldo drew 48 points from Cathy Ferrer, who took the individual title, and placed third with a 143 followed by Sta. Elena (140), Alabang (134), Villamor, Canlubang and Valley Golf, which scored identical 129s.
Alabang, meanwhile, bagged the Class A crown for the second straight leg as Eun Sil Jang shot 41 points, Rita Horan and Lan Fen Hsieh fired 38 points and Marilyn Reyes made 34 for the Muntinlupa-based squad’s 151 total.
Forest Hills, with Cristina Lava shooting a 39 and Sun Mi Hwang and Grace Atienza adding a pair of 38s and Tess Staub chipping in a 34, assembled a 149 and completed a sweep of runner-up finishes.
Tagaytay made a 146 for third as Emalina Flores put in a 39, Sandy Romualdez shot a 37, Farah Imperial made a 36 and Rosalie Heo added a 34 while Camp Aguinaldo placed fourth with a 143 behind Mabel Salivio’s 44 points that won for her the individual crown in the premier division.
Canlubang ended up fifth at 138 followed by Villamor and Orchard, which both had 136s, while Sta. Elena scored a 127.
