Cabrera nails third ROK Cup win in row

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Seaoil-DC karter Gabriel Tayao Cabrera sustained top form as he posted his third straight victory in as many legs of the Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at the Boomland Kart Track in Pasay City recently.

Backed by Point Zero Project, Media Magic and Imola Industries, the 14-year-old Cabrera put on another dominating show to clinch both the ROK Overall and ROK Junior plums while firming up his bid as the country’s top karter.

With the absence of veteran campaigner Bobby Domingo, the crowd expected another top caliber karter Cebuano Jette Calderon to provide the big challenge for Cabrera.

But Cabrera proved up to the task, topping the time trials in 29.747 seconds to claim the pole position then swept all the races, including the qualifying heat, the pre-final and the final races.

He completed the 28-lap final race in 13 minutes and 46.544 seconds or 2.877 seconds ahead of Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement.

“I couldn’t have gone this far without the sponsors who continuously support my racing career till now and of course, the racing greats who influenced and guided me early in my career and continues to provide me with more techniques to learn. I hope I made them proud with the feats we achieved,” said Cabrera, the first junior karter

No other Junior karter in history to post three straight victories.
