MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal faltered coming home and limped with a two-over 74 and fell three shots off Emily McLennan of Australia and Georgia’s Eunice Evans at the start of the 114th Women’s Western Amateur Golf Championship at the Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania Monday.
Superal, who topped a US Girls’ Sectional Qualifier in Missouri last week, made the turn at 36 but the top ICTSI-backed bet fumbled with two bogeys to drop joint 14th at the start of the 36-hole strokes plays of one of the oldest women’s amateur championships in the US.
The top 64 players after two rounds will advance to the match play phase beginning Wednesday.
The WWGA event is the second of a number of tournaments lined up for members of Team ICTSI in the US as part of their buildup for next month’s Junior World in San Diego and other top-level competitions abroad.
The other Team ICTSI members also did well in the past week with Sofia Chabon ruling the JW Qualifier and Pauline del Rosario topping the Long Beach Women’s Championship, both in California.
