MANILA, Philippines - Young aces Flynn Jackes and Zachary David gear up for tension-packed encounters as they bring their rivalries to the fast, tricky and challenging Boomland Kart Track today in the third leg of the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at the CCP Complex in Pasay.
Jackes of Team Kart Master Drakar of Singapore hopes to pull off another double title feat as he guns for his third consecutive triumph in the Mini-ROK XCS.
David, fresh from his Asian Karting victory, aims for a back-to-back win in the Formula Cadet Novice Ultron division.
In the last race, Jackes obviously was the main target as he had to survive two neck-and-neck battles before pulling through.
Eduardo Coseteng Jr. of Eagle Cement gave him a tough fight in the Mini-ROK XCS class as he stuck close throughout and even went side with Jackes going to the finish line.
Luckily, Jackes prevailed in the photo-finish ending of their encounter, winning the crown just 0.047 of a second ahead.
Coseteng, of course, will try to bounce back and steal the limelight from Jackes who might find another headache in Bianca Bustamante who upstaged him in Macau to emerge the Asian Mini-ROK champion in the kickoff of the 2014 Asian Karting Open Championship Series at the Kartodromo de Coloane Circuit.
David surprised the crowd on his debut stint as he dominated the Formula Cadet Novice Ultron race throughout, enjoying a 32-second margin over runner-up Joaquin Garrido with Rav Ezra Gaspar and Spencer Troy Cortez checking in third and fourth, respectively.
Also favored are William Casequin in the Formula SL Novice Xtra over Julia delos Angeles and McLelland and Carl Luig in the Formula SL Expert Xtra.
