Saludar KO’ed in Puerto Rico
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino prospect Froilan Saludar’s journey to a world title came to a screeching halt after the boxer suffered a second-round knockout loss to fellow flyweight contender McWilliams Arroyo at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico Thursday night.
According to a report by Philboxing.com’s Rich Mazon, Arroyo rocked Saludar with a left hook in the second round then followed it up with another hook at the 2:25 mark, flooring the Filipino.
Saludar tried to beat the count but failed, resulting in an impressive knockout victory for the Puerto Rican.
The bout installed Arroyo as the No. 1 contender to current IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand.
Saludar suffered the first loss of his career (19-1-1, 12 knockouts) while Arroyo improved to 15-1, with 13 knockouts.
