MANILA, Philippines - Amanda Sophie Hernandez dazzled the crowd to top the female-basic category while Aaron Martin dominated the male side as they led the winners in the Summer Skate competitions at SM skating rinks at Mall of Asia and Megamall recently.
The six-year-old Hernandez earned the nods of the judges with her impressive performance that netted her 44 points while Martin, 10, also emerged as the highest pointer in the male-basic division.
Jenniffer Roxas, 13, pooled 33 points to top the female-high category while Russell Anthony Laudit, 11, took the top plum in the male-high section.
Summer Skate is an annual local and recreational ice skating competition sanctioned by the Ice Skating Institute, the international governing body for recreational figure skating.
Founded in 1959, ISI is an organization of owners, operators and developers of ice skating facilities.
SM Ice Skating Rink has been a member of ISI since 1994. The first ISI Summer Skate competition was held at the SM Ice Skating Rink in Megamall in 1994 which drew over 100 skaters although the highest recorded number of participants was in 2006 at the newly built Ice Skating Rink in Mall of Asia with around 340 skaters.
