S’woods rules Luzvimin Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Southwoods closed out with a 208 and completed its domination of the WGAP Luzvimin Golf Invitational with a runaway 48-point victory over Villamor to reclaim the crown in the premier division at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country in Cagayan de Oro recently.

Annika Cedo fired 55 Molave points while Sunshine Baraquiel, Sofia Chabon and Sophia Blanco backed her up with 54, 52 and 47 points, respectively, as the Carmona-based squad totaled a 622 in the Diamond division of the 54-hole event sponsored by Champion Infinity and organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines.

Villamor, behind Harmie Constantino’s 59 points, snatched runner-up honors from Del Monte as it rallied with a 202 for a 574, relegating the 2012 champion to third with a 572 after a 190. Sta. Elena placed fourth with a 481 after a 161 while Phil. Navy shot a 128 for a 404.

Constantino’s fiery windup also netted her the individual crown in the centerpiece division as she finished with a 168 for a four-point win over Del Monte’s Pamela Mariano, who had a 164 after a 54, in the annual event which featured the leading golfing ladies from the country’s top courses.

Valley I, led by Kayla Nocum’s 50 points, saved its best for last as it assembled a 178 for a 501 to clinch the crown in the Emerald division, beating erstwhile leader Forest Hills, which wavered with a 170 for a 496, by five. Manila Southwoods-2 settled for third at 493 after a 168 while Negros Occidental wound up fourth at 465 after a 161 followed by Pueblo de Oro and Camp Aguinaldo, which finished tied for fifth at 441 after identical 148s, Apo Golf (134-428), Orchard (139-411) and Manila Golf (118-378).

Davao City, meanwhile, captured the Ruby division plum with a 443 after a 147 as Rose Sara and Virgie Hermiston shot identical 38 points, for a 17-point win over Valley 2, which shot a 137 for a 426 while Bacolod placed third at 418 after a 138.

Alabang ended up fourth at 402 after a 130 followed by Victorias (114-329), Pueblo de Oro (112-328) and Baguio (126-323).

Del Monte’s Annika Mendoza took the individual crown in Class A with a 124 after a 40, Valley 2’s Belinda del Rosario copped the Class B plum with a 115 after a 34, while Davao’s Sara shot a 38 to pocket the Class C diadem with a 117.
