Titans stay on semis hunt in Fr. Martin Cup
MANILA, Philippines – The Enderun College Titans kept their men’s division semifinal hopes alive, while the San Red Cubs-A and the Adamson Baby Falcons barged into the junior division semis of the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament.
The Titans squandered a 14-point advantage in the last period, but they held off two crucial attempts in the last 16 seconds to escape with a 65-62 win over the University of the Philippines Maroons at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.
Jordan Rios and Earl Maravillas led with 13 points each for the Titans, who posted their sixth win in eight matches in Group A, and they stayed on track for the last semifinals slot in their bracket.
Evan Furaque, Kenneth Alas and Joshua Caracut scored in double digits to power the Red Cubs to a 101-70 smashing of the Emilio Aguinaldo College- Immaculate Conception Academy in the quarterfinals wars of the junior division.
Cala Calzada hit 19 points and Jimboy Pasturan had 17 for the Baby Falcons, who swamped the University of Perpetual Help Altalettes, 90-57.
The Xavier School Stallions and the National University Bullpups also joined the Red Cubs and the Baby Falcons in the junior semis.
The Golden Stallions leaned on the free throws of Tyler Tio, Ronden Lee and Aldrich Tan to put away the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws, 82-77.
The Bullpups won by default over the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs.
JR Gallarza had 17 points for the Maroons, and he had two triples as they threatened 62-65.
After Rios scored on two charities in the last 16 seconds, the Titans were able to foil two attempts by Gallarza and Mikee Reyes in the remaining time.
