Gilbuena, Dizon prevail in Head jr tilt

MANILA, Philippines - Harvey Gilbuena and Melanie Dizon beat their respective rivals to dominate the 10th leg of 16th Head Junior satellite circuit national tennis annual age-group tournament Luzon region with two victories each at the San Pablo tennis courts in San Pablo City recently.

Gilbuena posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rey Mayo to cop the boys’ 18-under singles crown and repeated over Mayo via the same score to added the 16-and-U crown.

Dizon, on the other hand, leaned on her backhand volleys to down Alyka Sumapig in the girls’ 18-U finals then beat Blanche Lagrisola in the finals, 6-1, 6-1, for the 16-U plum in the annual junior tennis vent sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association and backed by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Head Graphene, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.   

In other finals results, Cesar Mestiol defeated RJ Virrey, 6-0, 7-6, for the boys’ 14-U title while Arriane Nillasca bashed Mariane Ferry, 6-3, 6-4, for the girls’ 14-U diadem.

Jibril Rose Perpetua crushed Juan Carlo Lapora, 6-2, 6-2, to nail the boys’ 12-U crown while Gabby Zoleta swept Julia Ignacio, 6-0, 6-0, to claim the girl’s 12-U title.

Marco Macalintal whipped Julia Ignacio, 6-0, 6-2, to pocket the 10-unisex plum.
