Head jr tennis Manila leg set

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The 16th Head Junior satellite circuit national tennis annual age-group tournament hopes to draw more than 300 participants in the Manila leg set June 2-7 at the Meralco indoor and outdoor tennis courts in Ortigas Pasig City.

“We are expecting a lot of new faces because a lot have been calling us to register and we’re expecting them to be stronger players,” said Liza Tang-Yuquico of Dynamic Sports Corp. “There should be more players this time as this is the last tournament before the official start of school season.”

Philippine Tennis Association president and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez will grace the opening rites of the event sponsored by Dynamic Sports Corp. and Smart Communications.

Events on tap are boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles events for 10-under unisex, 12-under, 14-under, 16-under and 18-under divisions.

The satellite circuit also provides Philta ranking points.

The annual junior tennis competition is supported by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Head Graphene, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.

Edgardo Manuel Angara, Daniel Estanislao III, Jed Justin Labasano, Justin Suarez, Claudio Canlas,  Jhastine Red Ballado, Chloe Saraza and Bianca Catoto headline the huge cast vying for top honors in the circuit’s last leg.

Organizers also hope to discover and sponsor fresh talents for slots in the Head Team Elite which produced players like Jeson Patrombon, Francis Casey Alcantara and Marinel Rudas.

“Through our Head Jr. Tennis program, we were able to scout talented players,” said Tang-Yuquico. “From there, we equip them as long as these kids continue training with the right coach, we are positive they will go far.”
