Palanca, Ramos emerge top qualifiers in jr masters

MANILA, Philippines - Philippe Palanca and Sean Jean Ramos grabbed the top seeding from their fancied rivals in the qualifying round of the Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters national finals at the Aoki course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

Palanca, the former US Kids world champion, carded a three-over 75 and took the No. 1 spot in the boys 11-12 years while Ramos made an 81 to emerge the top qualifier among the eight finalists in the boys 9-10 bracket.

Dan Cruz, playing at his home course, submitted the day’s only sub-par round, a two-under 70 to finish two shots ahead of the favored Raymart Tolentinto and Lanz Uy in the boys’ 15-17 section.

Jets Sajulga had the low score in the boys 13-14 years of 72 in this culmination of a series featuring qualifiers from four regional legs player in Baguio, Cebu, Bukidnon and Batangas.

The favorites held sway in the girls divison with Daniella Uy taking control in the 15-17 years age bracket with a 73 and Team ICTSI’s Sofia Chabon, Arnie Taguines and Junia Gabasa turning in the low rounds in their respective divisions.

Chabon took the top spot in the 13-14 years with a 78, Gabasa of Cebu snatched the top seeding in the 11-12 years and Taguines made an 86 for the No. 1 spot in the 9-10 age-group.
