Gonzales, Sioson cop Head Baguio leg titles

MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Marcen Gonzales and No. 1 Chrislyn Coleen Sioson defeated their separate foes recently to dominate the Luzon leg of the 16th Head  2014 Junior satellite circuit at the Athletic Bowl tennis court in Baguio.

Gonzales relied on his quickness to outplay Cenon Gonzales, 6-3, 6-1, to cop the boys’ 18-under title  of the annual junior satellite tennis circuit competition supported by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, HEAD Graphene, Toalson and HEAD, the official tennis ball.

Sioson bagged the 18 and 16-under girls crowns.

The event drew over 100 players from Zambales, Ilocos, Pampanga, Tarlac, Bataan, Pangasinan and Nueva Ecija..   

Sioson beat Monica Cortez, 7-5, 6-3, to claim the 18-under title, and Cortez, 6-1, 6-4,  to claim the 16-under crown.

In other results, Neil Tanggalin removed Cenon Gonzales, 6 7-6 (3) 6-3,  to take  the boys’ 16-under while Jay Dyan Estacio whacked Raymund Paris Gabuco, 6-3, 7-6,  to rule  the boys’ 14-under.

Sharry Caluza displayed her strong forehand volley to outclass Danielle Gabaldon in the 14-under, 6-1 6-1, while Diego Dayrit crushed Edgardo Manuel Angara, 6-2 6-2, for the boys’ 12-under crown.

Other winners were Jhastine Ballado over Brendalyn De Vera, 6-0 6-0 (12-under)  and Angelo Mejia over Edgar Manuel Angara, 6-4, 6-4 (unisex 10-under crown).
