MANILA, Philippines - Abby Arevalo carded a 75 to share top honors with Chanelle Avaricio in the Southern Luzon Junior Masters Qualifier at Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas yesterday.
Arevalo, who sputtered with an 84 in the first round, rallied with that three-over card and tied Avaricio, who faltered with a 81, on top of Class A with a 159 after the 36-hole elims where the top two players advanced to the national finals set next week.
Sam Martinez, a teammate of Arevalo at ICTSI stable, actually finished with another 159 after a 79 but lost in a playoff and missed the national finals.
Sofia Chabon and Sam Green, the two other ICTSI team mainstays, clinched the two spots in Class B with the former scoring a 75 to top their side of the elims with a 152 and the latter finishing with a 156 after an 80.
Over in China, Princess Superal groped for form and hobbled with a 77 to trail Taiwan’s Lai Yi Ting who shot a 70 at the start of the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior tournament in Mission Hills, World Cup Course in China yesterday.
Superal, seeking another win abroad after a dominant performance in the Kuala Lumpur and Royal Selangor Open in Malaysia, struggled with her iron game and putting and fell by seven with 36 holes to play in the premier Under-18 class.
