Superal finishes sixth in Thai LPGA
MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal struggled a bit with her iron game and settled for a 72 to finish sixth in the Thai LPGA Championship at the Sea Pines Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand over the weekend.
The ace Filipina shotmaker, who pressed her bid with a 69 in the second round, failed to set up birdie opportunities despite solid driving, missing at least four chances inside eight feet. After hitting four birdies Thursday, she made just one birdie on the par-3 No. 8 negated by a missed-green bogey on No. 11.
With a 72, the top ICTSI-backed bet wound up with a one-under 215 and finished five strokes behind Pimadsorn Sangkagaro, who also closed out with a 72 to beat reigning Philippine Ladies Open champion Supamas Sangchan by one with a 210.
Sangchan fired five birdies but fumbled with a double bogey and three bogeys and likewise ended up with a 72 in tough playing conditions for a 211.
It was a sorry finish for Superal, who had looked forward to a big windup to contend for the crown after a dominant performance in the Kuala Lumpur and Royal Selangor Open which she ruled by over 12 strokes.
Pro Jayvie Agojo hobbled with a 72 and fnished with a 278 while ICTSI teammates Sam Martirez and Pauline del Rosario finished tied at 236 after a 77 and 80, respectively.
