MANILA, Philippines – The University of Perpetual Help Altas stuck hard with their outside shooting and swamped the National University-B Bulldogs, 79-59, Thursday in the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.
Four Altas, led by Earl Thompson, scored in double digit figures and powered the Las Pinas-based cagers to their sixth straight win in Group A.
Thompson hit 12 points, Nigerian Prince Eze and Ardie Dizon made 12 points each, and Akhuetie Bright had 11 for the Altas, who are two wins away from a six-game sweep.
Commissioner Robert de la Rosa said the top two teams in each of the two brackets are in contention for four available semifinal seats.
Bright drilled in seven points in the first period, while Dizon and John Ylagan unloaded triples which allowed the Altas to take charge right away, 23-13.
In other matches, Allen Enriquez shot 19 points for the Arellano University Chiefs (2-3) as they blasted PATTS College of Aeronautics, 89-43.
The San Beda Red Cubs (1-1) drew 26 points from Joshua Caracut in their 98-84 pummeling of the NU Bullpups.
The Our Lady of Fatima University Junior Phoenix (5-1) prevailed over the Emilio Aguinaldo College-ICA Brigadiers, 72-54, in the junior side.
John Carlo Angeles fired 13 points and Gian Yaco made 12 for the University of Perpetual Help Altalettes as they trounced Chiang Kai Shek, 84-54, in the Group B of the junior division.
Steven Andres had 44 points as Manila Patriotic School demolished Far Eastern University, 93-75.
